Our approach to swimming
At Broadmere Primary we aim for our children to leave KS2 being able to:
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
- swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke
Swimming is the only sport to be included in the National Curriculum for PE, and we offer swimming as part of the Year 3 Curriculum. Children are assessed at the end of the swimming unit and this data will be published at the end of KS2.
As part of our continued commitment to promoting the lifelong benefits of physical education, we offer the opportunity for children to participate in catch-up sessions during Year 6. This is to ensure the key swimming skills, that have lifelong benefits, can be achieved by all.
